  • DO: Dominican VP underlines challenges to boost digital economy

    Vice President Margarita Cedeno called the digital divide as a source of unacceptable inequality, and said this and six other social obstacles are challenges that lead to achieve better opportunities for all Dominicans.

    Cedeño said that among these commitments are forming a digital citizenship, building an efficient e-government, moving towards an open 'big data' government, boosting the digital economy as the engine of progress, and taking advantage of technology to generate social change and boost digital entrepreneurship and business innovation.

  • DO: Larimar City & Resort promotes the country’s first “Smart City”

    The Spanish company CLERHP inaugurated the first phase of the Larimar City & Resort real estate and tourism complex, the first “Smart City” in the Dominican Republic.

    More than 300 guests, including Government officials, representatives from the business and social sectors, company investors, and strategic partners, gathered for the inauguration ceremony marking the institutional launch of the most innovative urban developments in Latin America.

  • Dominican Republic has its first digitally-signed document

    With the insertion of a secure chip-clad card into a device hooked to a Dell laptop and the entry of the user’s code this Thursday morning, Dominican Republic joins a handful of countries where the Digital Signature is a legal instrument facilitating private and government transactions, representing another solid step toward the globalization era.

    The Spanish company Avansi took the initiative to establish a platform for digital signatures in the country jointly with the Dominican Telecommunications Institute (Indotel), whose president Jose Rafael Vargas affirmed that the specialized firm’s interest was the result of a “challenge” Indotel issued to entities to come to the country and implement the digital system.

  • Dominican Republic Plans Smart City Pilot with ITU

    Two Dominican provinces will become smart city pilots under a new UN-backed agreement using IoT, digital twins, and KPI-based planning tools. The Dominican Republic has taken a significant step toward digital modernization by launching a smart city transformation initiative in collaboration with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The agreement, signed in Geneva in July 2025, selects San Pedro de Macorís and Monseñor Nouel (Bonao) as pilot provinces for a national smart and sustainable cities program.

  • Dominican Republic president seeks SKorean help with 'e-government'

    The Dominican Republic's president said Friday that his country is seeking South Korea's help to set up an electronic government system, and that South Korea could use his country as a springboard for exports to the U.S.

    Leonel Fernandez held a summit with South Korea's President Roh Moo-hyun earlier Friday, and signed an agreement on building an "e-government" system in Dominican Republic.

  • Dominican Republic: E-government will take the DR out of obsolescence, Fernandez says

    President Leonel Fernandez affirmed that the implementation of the electronic government will assure that the Dominican Republic will gradually eliminate the hindrances and difficulties of the obsolete model of State management.

    He said that the electronic government is the correct route, because it means that a model is adopted at the vanguard of changes, challenges and transformations that the times and this new century demand.

  • Dominican Republic: Govt going 'E'

    The government of Dominica says it is going “E” and on June 25, 2008 made funds available to facilitate that new focus.

    At a presentation ceremony on Wednesday an initial amount of EC $ 37 thousand was made available to the Reform Management Unit (RMU) for the construction of government’s website.

    The funds are being made available under the European Union funded ICT development program and according to project officer Daniel Reid a total of EC $ 900,000 will be made available for ICT development in the government system.
