  • Antigua and Barbuda: Mansoor connects IT with development thrust

    ICT’s can help countries in the region leapfrog their development process by moving directly to a globally-connected, information driven, and knowledge-based society.

    That’s the view of Minister responsible for Information Technology Dr. Edmond Mansoor, during his address at the opening of a two-week workshop on ICT and the networked economy: Training for the new economy, at the Jolly Beach Resort.

  • Antigua and Barbuda: National Solid Waste Management Authority launches Web site

    The National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) launched its official Website last Thursday after a seven-year planning period.

    Present at the launching ceremony, held at the Government IT Centre, was the Minister of Health John Maginley, General Manager of the NSWMA Denise Roberts, Chief Health Inspector Lionel Michael and Dorbrene Omarde, chairman of the NSWMA Board and other members of the NSWMA management team.

  • Antigua Launches Major ICT Project in Partnership With Digicel

    Antigua and Barbuda’s government has launched its multi-million dollar GATE project, something it hopes will be a major driver of development in information and communication technologies.

    The Government-Assisted Technology Endeavour is a partnership between Antigua and Barbuda and regional telecom firm Digicel.

    The project will focus on improving Antigua’s broadband internet connectivity, along with a focus on stimulating growth in innovation, entrepreneurship, job creation and sustainability.

  • Antigua-Barbuda ICT programme a success, says PM

    Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer has hailed the Antigua and Barbuda government’s Information Communication Technology Programme as a success story.

    Following the presentation of the 2009 Speech from the Throne by Governor-General Dame Louise Lake-Tack, Prime Minister Spencer said that the programme we have pioneered since 2004 is tantamount to a revolution. “We have been able to accomplish great things that have never been done or tested in the region before,” he said.

  • Caribbean governments commit to establishing 21st Century Governments

    Heads of Government and their representatives attending the 21st Century Government Summit endorsed and expressed their commitment to establishing 21st Century Government in their respective countries.

    The Government of Antigua and Barbuda and the Caribbean Telecommunications Union, in collaboration with the Caribbean Centre for Development Administration (CARICAD), hosted a Summit to present to regional Heads of Government the principles of 21st Century Government, the goal of which is to accelerate government and public service transformation and thereby strengthen economic competitiveness and promote sustainable development.

  • New land use technology piloted in Antigua

    Antigua's Land Registry has received a tremendous technological boost.

    The Ministry of Justice yesterday unveiled a new computerised system, which is expected to revolutionise the way in which land records are kept in Antigua & Barbuda.

    The Stewart Landfolio Suite is a programme developed by the Texas-based company Stewart International in collaboration with the Organisation of American States (OAS), and is now being piloted in Antigua.

  • Techno ‘revolution’ ahead for Antigua & Barbuda

    It’s all about innovation, entrepreneurship, job creation and sustainability. That’s how government describes the remaining three components of the multi-million dollar Government Assisted Technology Endeavour (GATE) project to be achieved in partnership with telecommunications giant Digicel.

    Telecommunications Minister Dr Edmond Mansoor said the components are – 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) connectivity for government under the expanded e-Government drive; a multipurpose ICT training facility and special needs resource centre and; 6,000 tablets (computers) for Antiguan & Barbudan students.
