he City of Casey has unveiled a new four-year strategy aimed at using technology, innovation and data-driven planning to improve daily life across the municipality.
The newly announced Smart Casey Program 2026–2029 marks the next stage of the council’s broader smart city ambitions, following the completion of the earlier Smart Casey Launchpad initiative, which delivered more than 60 projects over the past four years.
Mayor Stefan Koomen said the updated program was developed with strong input from residents, local businesses and industry groups to ensure future projects reflect community priorities.
According to Mayor Koomen, the council’s original smart city agenda, introduced in 2021, has already helped establish the foundations for a more connected and responsive municipality.
“Smart cities can help us tackle complex urban challenges by leveraging data, new technology and innovative ways of thinking,” he said.
“This next phase has been shaped by what our community has told us, and it reflects our commitment to using technology in ways that genuinely improve people’s lives.”
The program outlines several priority areas for the next four years, including smarter design of parks and public spaces, improved use of data and analytics, support for local innovation, expanded digital inclusion initiatives and exploration of new technologies that can enhance council services and community wellbeing.
Council leaders say community participation will remain central to the rollout, with initiatives such as Living Labs and the Casey Conversations platform expected to play a key role in shaping future projects and testing new ideas.
