The hunt is already on to choose a government agency from the Gulf Co-Operative Council (GCC) that offers the best eGovernment service. UAE is inviting applications from various government agencies from across the six GCC countries to vie for the top honours.
UAE has already finalised its list and already in race for the top spot is the Dubai Water and Electricity Authority (DEWA) that has been shortlisted for three of the seven categories.
UAE’s Telecom Regulatory Authority which is hosting the 3rd GCC eGovernment award in Dubai yesterday said that it is also planning to bring in officials and experts from the region to hold interactive workshops to discuss opportunities and ways to advance eGovernment capabalities across the region.
Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, TRA Deputy Director General for Information and eGovernment Sector and Head of mGovernment Committee said, "The commitment by government bodies across the GCC to develop eGovernment is clearly reflected in the effort each of the GCC countries in taking to unify the vision of better serving GCC nationals.”
Held every two years, the GCC eGovernment Award is presented to government ministries, agencies and authorities from the GCC countries who follow the international best practices and excel in using Information and Communications Technology (ICT) tools to provide services and information.
This year’s programme will be held in Dubai from December 9th - 11th, 2013 at the Intercontinental Dubai Festival City Hotel, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai.
Below are the award categories and the name of the Governmental entities that will represent the UAE at the award:
- Best Government eService - (Dubai Courts and DEWA)
- Best Government Interoperable eService - (Ministry of Interior and RTA)
- Best Government-to-Government Shared Service - (Dubai Smart Government and Federal Authority for Human resources)
- Best Government Portal - (DEWA and Zakat Fund)
- Best Application for Smart Device - (DEWA and Abu Dhabi Systems and Information Center)
- Best Government eParticipation - (Dubai Government and Dubai Courts)
- Best eInitiative - (Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority and Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council)
According to Al Mansoori the TRA is working closely with each of the GCC countries to make the event a success. As a first step, the TRA has launched the official awards website award.gccegov.net that contains essential information about the event.
The TRA has also enhanced the electronic registration system for participating applicants and prepared a clear methodology to choose participants to represent GCC countries in the exhibition.
