The e-payment service value at Dubai Customs constituted 40.6% of the aggregate collected amounts among the government departments in Dubai Government which reached Dhs1.11bn during the first half of 2010, according to the most recent which places Customs on the top of other government departments in Dubai in terms of the value of e-payment processes.
Mr. Fahed Bin Fahed, Executive Director of HR, Finance and Admin Division, said that the growing numbers of e-payment processes at Dubai Customs came as a result of the Department's efforts in educating the clients and encouraging them to use e-payment methods including credit cards, debited through bank accounts transfers and the electronic dirham.
He added that Dubai Customs was keen on providing the necessary infrastructure for reinforcing its electronic matrix which allows providing numerous simplified services to its clients including e-payment.
"This has helped multiply the number and value of these operations largely throughout the past three years," Mr. Fahed said.
He further noted, "The implementation of the E-clearance system (Mirsal 2) in the beginning of 2010 had a great impact on encouraging our clients to use the e-payment portal to process their customs transactions quickly and effortlessly."
Mr. Fahed pointed out that the number of the e-payment processed executed in the first half of 2010 reached 163.15 thousand operations, 137.4 thousand of which were processed through credit cards with a value of Dhs389.1m; that is 86.1% of the total value of e-payment processes at Dubai Customs during the first six months of 2010.
As for the e-payment processes performed through bank accounts transfers, there were 5207 operations with Dhs17.1m value whereas e-payments through the e-dirham amounted to 21 thousand operations valued at Dhs45.5m.
E-payment is considered a part of the comprehensive matrix of the systems and programs provided by Dubai e-Government to facilitate secure e-payment procedures. The matrix functions under an umbrella of rules and laws ensuring the privacy and protection of the purchase procedures and service delivery. e-payment feature supports using credit cards, e-dirham, Dubai e-Government cards and bank account transfers.
