The development comes as part of the EIDA’s new strategy to improve e-services as well as to provide better access to info for all the departments.
Dr Ali Khouri, Director-General of the EIDA, expressed his delight on this unique achievement of the authority, which enabled the UAE to be the first country in the world to adopt this technology.
He pointed out that this technique enables a number of applications to be added in the identity card, to simplify procedures and facilitate public and private sectors.
He stressed that this achievement brings to light two important elements of the new strategy — provision of secure infrastructure and modern e-government services, and integration and electronic communication between various government departments.
Khouri added that people are not required to replace old cards immediately. “They can receive it at the time of renewal of their existing cards.”
Nasser Al Mazrui, the Executive Director for Communications and Information Systems at the EIDA, said the new cards based on contactless technology, has a high degree of confidentiality, reliability and ease of use.
