Commissioner of education S Chockalingam said the state wants to emulate Kerala's model of e-governance in education while exposing officers to developments in the field in other parts of the country.
The training has been organized only for director, deputy directors and joint directors. Chockalingam told TOI on Sunday, "The officers would get to know how information technology is used to change or improve the quality of education as well as to improve administration. At present, for the education department in Maharashtra, e-governance is limited to typing a letter and issuing it online."
Top experts in the field from across the country would address the session over seven days starting from October 6.
Kerala leads the country in terms of quality of education and also in using e-governance applications in education. The participants would be given theory lessons in the morning session which would be followed by actual visits to schools or education departments where these applications are put to use.
Chockalingam said, "The main intention of the training programme for officers is two fold -- to directly use some of the applications for Maharashtra and secondly to expose the officers to what is happening in other states as far as education and e-governance is concerned. This training will also help change their perspective towards office work in due course of time and they will become champions of e-governance."
