MyCC chief Dr Mohd Khalid Abdul Samad was quoted today by news portal The Malaysian Insider as confirming that the watchdog has received complaints against MyEG and has started the probe.
“MyCC has taken note of the complaints regarding MyEG Services Bhd and is looking into it from the aspect of competition. Any updates will be announced accordingly,” he reportedly told the news portal in an email.
PKR lawmakers have demanded that the federal government explain the decision to outsource the permit issuance to MyEG, claiming that the firm could profit as much as RM100 million annually from collecting the fees.
The introduction of the new system had caused confusion at Immigration Department branches nationwide after employers and their agents were directed to use MyEG’s new online system in place of the discontinued permit counters.
Putrajaya has temporarily reopened Immigration Department counters issuing migrant worker permits following a backlash when the registration was outsourced to MyEG Services.
Immigration Department director-general Datuk Mustafa Ibrahim said yesterday the department’s counters will be open only until February 28 to allow employers to familiarise themselves with the new online system run by the e-government services provider.
In The Star on Saturday, MyEG moved to defend its qualifications, pointing out that the company had been involved in online applications for foreign maids for the past two years.
“We have the experience to handle thousands of applications. We make the application for work permits easy and hassle-free because applicants need not waste hours standing in queue just to submit the forms,” MyEG Services Bhd executive director Datuk Raja Munir Shah Raja Mustapa was quoted saying in the daily's report.
“We have a good track record. We have been in existence since 2000.
“We are certainly not a fly-by-night company. We are answerable to the shareholders of this public-listed company,” Raja Munir added.
