Transforming Government since 2001

The Lao and Vietnamese governments have agreed to continue cooperation in the development of cyber security, e-government solution, and postal service.

The commitment to ongoing cyber security, e-government solutions and postal cooperation was made in Lao capital Vientiane on Tuesday between Lao's Ministry of Post and Telecommunications and Vietnam's Ministry of Information and Communications, local daily Vientiane Times reported Wednesday.

Three agreements related to this cooperation were signed during a visit to Laos by Vietnam's Minister of Information and Communications, Nguyen Manh Hung.

The agreements on cyber security, e-government solutions and postal development were signed between the relevant sectors of the two ministries. In the mean time, Vietnam handed over two trucks to Lao's Ministry of Post and Telecommunications.

The agreements comprised the Minutes of Meeting (MOM), e-office supply, and an installation contract.

The MOM was signed between Lao's Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Thansamay Kommasith and Nguyen Manh Hung, Vietnam's Minister of Information and Communications.

Both sides agreed on the cooperation theme of "go together, work together, cooperate and develop together" to ensure that future ICT cooperation will be effective and practical, and also help to consolidate the special friendly relations between Laos and Vietnam.

Over the past year, the Lao ministry also signed an agreement to work with its Vietnamese counterpart to develop technological innovations and human resources.

The two countries have been cooperating in training on spectrum management and monitoring, along with the management of postal service, Internet broadband, cloud computing and social media.

They also cooperated in sharing the information, experiences and best practices in e-government development, ICT application development, e-service promotion and business opportunities, as well as cooperation between ICT providers, the government and business, according to the report.
