Experts and students from Ardhi University in Dar es Salaam said on Tuesday that ICT was a motivation for development in all human activities, especially for urban development. They were speaking during a workshop for Women in ICT organised by Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada at Protea Courtyard Hotel Dar es Salaam.
The Associate Director of institute of human settlements studies at Ardhi University, Prof Alphonce Kyessi, said that the reason for a poor planning in urban areas was government delay to issue building permits for various reasons including obsolete technology.
"Analogue takes a lot of time. It is hoped that digital technology will help save time," Prof Kyessi said.
Prof Kyessi said ICT can be used in land information systems, Solid Waste Management as well as mapping of transport routes.
Citing Rwanda as a case study in ICT development in East Africa, Prof Wilbert Kombe said all other East African countries should learn from it since it is more advanced in ICT.
