Kashan Citizenship Card has been selected among the top five projects lined up for the third WeGO Smart Sustainable City Awards, the mayor of the historic city in Isfahan Province announced.

“According to the Secretariat of Awards, Kashan Citizenship Card, along with other top projects, has been recognized on the WeGO website and will be cited in a top ICT journal,”Seyyed Mohammad Nazem Razavi was also quoted as saying by Kashan Municipality’s official website.

Razavi noted that 76 projects from 56 cities had competed in the categories of Open City, Digital Inclusion, Innovative Smart City, Sustainable City, E-Government Service and Cooperative City.

The Kashan project was included among the top five in the Innovative Smart City section. Projects were judged based on Urban Development Innovations in Security, Disaster, Transport, Waste, Environment, Energy, Welfare and Culture areas. The other four winners were plans submitted from Bydgoszcz (Poland), Moscow (Russia), New Taipei (Chinese Taipei) and Qingdao (China).

Established in 2011, the WeGO Smart Sustainable City Awards aim to recognize and promote outstanding ICT, e-government and smart city innovations of cities and local governments across the world.

Kashan Citizenship Card has already been connected to Shetab, the Iranian interbank money transfer network through Bank Melli Iran. The card can also be used for paying public transport fare.
