A huge public security-cum-service complex has been opened in Al Shahaniya where the services provided include visa issuance and renewal, fingerprinting, passport issuance and e-government services.

The Minister of State for Interior Affairs, H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, inaugurated the complex on Thursday.

The premises boast a comprehensive security and service complex that comprises buildings for several offices, such as Dukhan Security Department (DSD), a Services Centre with a special annexe for Qatari passports and Qatari Smart ID Cards and a Civil Defence Centre in addition to branches for the Drug Prevention Department and Criminal Investigation.

The Director General of Public Security, Staff Major-General Saad bin Jassim Al Khulaifi, the Director of Qatar Petroleum (Dukhan Operations), Ahmed Saif Al Sulaiti, and other dignitaries were present.

Six water tanks for carrying out civil defence operations in the area have been built.

The Director of DSD, Brigadier Abdul Hadi Dhafir Al Ahbabi, the Assistant Director of the General Directorate of Passports and Expatriates Affairs, Brigadier Muhammed Al Atheeque, the Director of Criminal Evidences and Information Department, Colonel Nasser Al Mahmoud, the Head of Engineering and Maintenance Section in the Logistics Department, Colonel Muhammed Thani Al Mudhahika and Shahaniya Civil Defence Centre Officer Lieutenant Khalid Nasser Al Othaibi later held a press briefing.

Stressing the importance of community policing, Al Ahbabi said the department had appointed some of its staff especially for community policing and sent them for special training courses, which helped them to communicate with residents and the labour force in the area easily and also helped to find solutions to many social problems.

Brigadier Muhammed Al Atheeque explained that the Shahaniya Services Centre was providing most of the services offered by the headquarters of the General Directorate of Passports and Expatriates Affairs in Doha.

The services available at Shahaniya Services Centre are: Residence Permit (Personal) Renewal, Residence Permit (Companies) Renewal, Visa Application Form (Personal) Submission, Visa Application Form (Families) Submission, Visa Application Form (Companies) Submission, Qatari Passport, Exit Permit for Qataris and Expatriates, Reporting about Absconding Workers, e-Government Service, Recruitment Application Submission, E-Cash Service and ATM Service.

“The Fingerprint Section has two units: one for men and another for women, and the section has been established in Shahaniya in order to ease the delivery of fingerprinting services to the area’s residents. The section at present works during official duty hours and in future may work in an evening shift,” said Colonel Nasser Al Mahmoud.

Speaking about the facilities in the Shahaniya Civil Defence Centre, Al Othaibi said the centre covered a number of industrial establishments and would respond first in the case of road accidents in the area.

On the occasion of the centre’s inauguration, the civil defence directorate launched six new Rozen Power water tankers, which are used for rescue operations and fire-fighting.
