AMATA will contribute to global efforts in tackling climate change. It voluntarily took action in 2020 when it set targets to reduce direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions by a total of 5% in 2022 and 7% in 2025.

AMATA VN Group is said to be one of the leading industrial park developers in Vietnam. It has set up a footprint in the country with a total of six projects – both developed and still under development – covering an area of 2,500 hectares with total investment capital of about $840 million.

The group successfully called in over $4 billion of foreign direct investment capital from more than 170 tenants and has created jobs for more than 60,000 local citizens.

With a proven record of over 25 years in Vietnam, sustainability has always been a crucial part of its business operations. Through many challenges in the past few years, AMATA is proud to be among the drivers of economic growth in the communities it calls home.

Climate change is an emerging global challenge and the United Nations has been calling for urgent action. The Vietnamese government showed a strong commitment to net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 at COP26 held in Glasgow in late October.

Rising global temperatures, extreme weather, and increases in the frequency of natural disasters are all consequences of climate change. Without suitable measures, the global temperature will continue to rise rapidly by above 1.5 degrees and will threaten human health and the environment.

AMATA has been making an effort to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions through the implementation of many initiatives over the years. It has replaced high-energy equipment with lower-energy replacements, including switching out traditional chillers, utilising green technology, and installing solar cells as a source of electricity supply for its office buildings.

Employees also participate by voluntarily switching off lights during lunch breaks, using the stairs rather than lifts, and adjusting the thermostat to 25 degrees Celsius. Through these actions, the company achieved a reduction in electricity consumption from fossil fuels of 19 per cent in 2021 when compared to 2017.

Moving forward, AMATA has set an ambitious goal of becoming a low carbon emitter by 2040 under the Smart City concept. This means reducing its carbon footprint by cutting fossil fuels from its operations and focusing on becoming a smart industrial park developer.

It also involves balancing the emissions with natural carbon sinks such as forestry. With the Smart City concept, the group will explore – with the collaboration of its valuable global partners – innovations in technology and clean alternative energy to achieve a more efficient, more resilient, and greener organisation to balance social and environmental sustainability.

AMATA will contribute its efforts toward a better future for its business and its customers, and bring a higher quality of life for the community while living in harmony with nature as it strives to reach its ultimate goal of producing low-carbon cities.
