The Vietnamese government has asked all central agencies and local administrations nationwide to focus efforts on preparing human resources and infrastructure development to implement the fourth Industrial Revolution.

Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said all ministries and sectors should apply e-government systems so that they can offer better quality services to the people and enterprises by further simplifying and modernizing all administrative procedures, Vietnam News Agency reported on Monday.

The Ministry of Information and Communications has been assigned to oversee the development of information technology (IT) infrastructure to ensure that new IT technologies, particularly the 4G mobile network, run smoothly and safely throughout Vietnam by 2018.

The Ministry of Education and Training has been tasked to promote the teaching of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) in general schools. The pilot STEM teaching program will start implementation in the 2017-2018 academic year.

Northern Bac Ninh province has been selected as a pilot locality to develop a smart city model in construction and hi-tech agriculture development. It will be a pilot site for science and technology applications through the use of mobile phones.

Meanwhile, northern Ha Nam province will pilot hi-tech agriculture with high-yielding crops.

The fourth Industrial Revolution is the fourth major industrial era since the initial Industrial Revolution of the 18th century. Central to this revolution are emerging technology breakthrough in such fields as artificial intelligence, robotics, the Internet of Things, autonomous vehicles, 3D printing and nanotechnology.
