
The Oyo State Government has renewed its commitment to transforming Ibadan into a sustainable, climate-resilient and smart city through a strategic partnership with the World Bank Group and the International Finance Corporation (IFC).
The Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Hon. Ademola Aderinto, disclosed this on Thursday while receiving a delegation from the World Bank Group and IFC in his office after the successful completion of the Ibadan Green Cities Action Plan programme, jointly coordinated with the state government.
Aderinto said the initiative supports Governor Seyi Makinde’s vision of repositioning Ibadan as a modern, investor-friendly and globally competitive city through sustainable urban planning, environmental protection, improved transportation systems, flood control measures and efficient waste management.
According to the commissioner, the programme involved a series of technical sessions, stakeholder engagements, workshops and field assessments with relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), development partners, private sector operators, transport unions, environmental specialists and urban development experts.
He explained that the discussions focused on key sectors including transportation, urban planning, solid waste management, water and wastewater infrastructure, climate adaptation, emergency response systems, green infrastructure and investment opportunities aimed at enhancing economic growth and improving the quality of life within the Ibadan metropolis.
The World Bank Group/IFC delegation was led to the commissioner’s office by the coordinator of the project, Hon. Abiodun Oluwaseun Laurel, who also serves as Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Project Delivery.
Members of the delegation included Maryam Njie, Kelvin Tagnipéz and Oluwaseun Olowoporoku.
