By June 30, 2019, Egypt should have seven additional online platforms for government services. This was announced by the IT ministry which indicated that these platforms will provide access to various services like insurance, taxes, social housing, special needs, real estate registration, education, grants and marriage or divorce certificates.

According to local media al-monitor, the government also plans to provide a smart card that citizens will use to pay for these government services that require payments.

The launch of these platforms indicates the government’s efforts towards its digital transformation via an E-government. This E-government will improve access to public services for companies and individuals. It will also improve governance with strong efficiency and decreased corruption rate.

In its corruption perception index, Transparency International indicates that Egypt went from being the 117th in 2017 to the 105th in 2018 out of 180 countries in that index. The adoption of technology to improve public governance is one of the reasons for this improvement in ranking.
