The Sultanate has ranked fifth in the Arab world in the list of countries with highly developed electronic governance systems, according to a report issued by the United Nations.

A statement issued online by the Oman News Agency (ONA), said: "The United Nations ranked Oman fifth in the Arab world in the list of countries considered 'very advanced in the field of electronic government' across the world for the current year 2020, according to a new report issued by the Department of Economic and Social Affairs affiliated to the UN."

"The Sultanate ranked 50th globally in the index, which includes 193 countries and it got 0.7749 points in the report, which was published online last night."

Oman obtained 0.8529 points in the online services sub-index, 0.6967 points in the telecommunications infrastructure index and 0.7751 in the human capital index.

The United Nations indicated in its report that the Sultanate moved upwards, from the list of developed countries in the field of e-government to the list of very developed countries during the period between the issuance of the reports of 2018 and 2020.

"The report ranked the Sultanate among the 13 countries in the world that have highly developed human capital. Oman has worked on formulating and adopting plans for the national digital transformation."
