Shenzhen ranked the first among the 32 major Chinese cities selected in an online governance service competition after an evaluation by the e-governance office of the State Council on Tuesday.

It also topped the rankings last year, when the evaluation was done.

The ranking is based on the city government's performance in five areas related to online governance service — efficacy, maturity, completeness, coverage and accuracy.

The e-governance office evaluated the service quality of websites in five areas, including efficiency, accuracy and service attitude.

The Shenzhen government has won several awards for its performance in building digital tools for government and providing online services. Its embrace of the internet, big data, cloud computing and 5G technology have greatly improved its efficiency and brought tangible benefits and convenience to local residents and businesses, the evaluation found.
