The government announced on Monday that 70 out of a total of 120 smart city projects in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu & Kashmir, are progressing rapidly and nearing completion.

Athar Aamir Khan, CEO of Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL) and Commissioner of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), stated during a press conference that all the smart city initiatives, which were prioritized due to the upcoming G-20 event, have either been completed or are close to completion.

Significant progress has been made in various projects, including the renovation of Airport Road and Flyover, city illumination, the wire-free and pedestrian-exclusive Polo View market, as well as a section of MA Road.

Notably, Gupkar junction has been completed, and the illumination of several buildings, such as Press Enclave, SPS Library, and others, has also been accomplished.

The CEO of SSCL emphasized that out of the 120 smart city projects, 70 are currently in progress. Some have already been completed, while others are slated for completion in June this year. He reassured that each project has a defined timeline.

Furthermore, he expressed confidence that the majority of the projects will be completed by December 2023. Additionally, all works under the smart city project will be finished within the set deadline, as further initiatives will commence between December 2023 and June 2024, as mandated by the Government of India.
