Five years on, since the launch of the Smart City Mission, the progress of the Smart City Project in Faridabad is slow as only eight of the total 44 projects awarded under the programme stand completed. Another 13.6 per cent of the works are nearing completion, it is reported.

According to details made available by the authorities of Faridabad Smart City Limited (FSCL), the agency carrying out the mission, eight projects worth Rs 190.66 crore stands completed, while six projects worth Rs 417.79 crore are on the verge of completion. The FSCL has released tenders of another 30 projects worth Rs. 321.59 crore recently, claim its officials. The total cost of the projects has been worth Rs 930.04 crore.

One of the major projects completed, include the integrated command control centre (ICCC), which has come up at a cost of Rs 172.51 crore. It was rolled out in September 2019. Being an integral part of Rs 2,600 crore Smart City project ,it has started providing the live feed of the adaptive traffic control system (ATCS), CCTV, red light violation detection (RLVD) and automatic number plate reading (ANPR) and air quality level for the first time. As many as 1,200 cameras have been installed. The second project which has been completed is of the smart e toilets at 10 locations (Rs 2.02 crore). Open air gyms at five locations (Rs. 41 lakh), comprehensive mobility plan (Rs1.07 crore), smart park costing Rs 3.42 crore, Internet bandwidth connectivity costing Rs 7.74 crore and installation of rainwater harvesting system at a cost of Rs1.15 crore and development of two localities of Fatehpur Chandila village and Santnagar (Rs 2.34 crore). The projects which are nearing completion include development of roads ( 26.1 km) worth Rs 325 crore, which is the largest allocation so far. Besides, the development of smart road of Badkhal-Bypass (1.67 km) at a cost of Rs 42.5 crore, water scada system (Rs 22.40 crore) construction of STP for the rejuvenation of Badkhal Lake at the cost of Rs 22.49 crore have also been done, said FSCL officials. Two other projects of metro pillar painting worth Rs.3.72 crore and national highway beautification worth Rs 1.68 crore have also been completed. However, encroachments still dot the Badkhal-Bypass smart road, which still hamper the traffic movement said AK Gaur, a resident.

“While the progress has been satisfactory, the FSCL is expecting the release of funds of nearly Rs 200 crore and has recently released a tender worth Rs 321.59 crore for the development of civic infrastructure under the Pan city project,” says Garima Mittal, CEO, FSCL.
