Eager to render the experience of bus commuters hassle-free, the Belagavi Smart City Ltd (BSCL) has decided to introduce an app that will enable passengers to ascertain the exact location of the bus, in addition to providing them information on the nearest bus terminal. The ‘My Belagavi’ app, now available for download on the Google PlayStore will enable passengers to plan their journey to the minute.

Thus far, 64 buses have been equipped with GPS devices, and data on their location will be updated on the app in real time. This will provide passengers with regular updates on the schedule of buses, and details of the nearest bus terminal. Furthermore, 10 bus shelters have been upgraded into smart terminals, with closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras, 15-inch LED screens, WiFi facility and billboards. Citizens can now avail of WiFi facility at the bus shelters for 15 minutes.

My Belagavi app is considered to be one of the most useful applications for citizens, who use it to access emergency response numbers, and information on tourist places.

BSCL managing director Praveen Bagewadi encouraged every citizen of Belagavi, particularly women, to download the app.

“Citizens can draw the attention of officials to civic woes, and get them solved. More than 19,000 citizens have downloaded the app so far. In addition to information on tourist spots, citizens can find the nearest ATM kiosk, which the app will provide based on their GPS coordinates. The app also includes smart solid waste management. At the touch of a button, citizens are directed to the government agency they must contact for procuring key certificates such as birth and death certificates, property documents, et al,” Bagewadi told TOI.

Salman Sindgikar, manager (network) at BSCL, said that they were constantly working to improve the app by incorporating more features into it. “Feedback from the public has largely been positive thus far,” he said.
