The work at Trichy’s Puthur fish market was stalled for over 70 days and with the labour crisis looming large the Trichy Corporation plans to extend the project deadline

With the Tamil Nadu government easing its Covid-19 lockdown curbs in non-contaminated zones, the smart city project work at Trichy Corporation has resumed operations at Trichy’s Puthur fish market. The project sanctioned under the Smart Cities Mission looks to develop a new commercial complex in Trichy by demolishing Puthur vegetable market on the Thennur road.

The work at the project was stalled for over 70 days and with the labour crisis looming large the Trichy Corporation plans to extend the project deadline.

According to Trichy Corporation, the total cost of the project is estimated to stand at Rs 20.20 crore. The three-floor commercial building complex is a 5,000- square-metre commercial complex, which will house various commercial activities in a much synchronized way. “The tender for the 5,000- square-metre commercial complex was floated in August last year,” the Corporation said.

Further the local administration plans to shift the adjoining shops in the market area to Kasivilangi market area on the Kuzhumani Road in the city. The local administration is also hopeful that the shifting process will be completed as per the deadline.

The Trichy Corporation plans to start the demolition work at the old market place once the relocation of shops is complete. The market which primarily sells fish will house commercial shops and not the fish market once completed.
