As per the status of e-Governance in the state and the launching of Nagaland Chapter of Computer Society of India (CSI) yesterday, the first state in the North East to have launched this so far,Nagaland would soon become the Information Technology (IT) hub of the Northeastern region.

While appreciating the efforts of the state government in making good progress in IT sector, CSI former president Dr. Anirban Basu said Nagaland can become the hub for CSI in the North East.

He hoped that Nagaland chapter will emerge as a strong chapter and do a lot for the people of Nagaland.

CSI president Sanjay Mohapatra said, “CSI invests about more than Rs 25 lakh each year to conduct state-of-the-art research in software engineering, informative systems, conducting YIPT Ward, organising R&R activities for students.”

It also focuses on need based skill development, women empowerment by utilizing IT/social networking, cyber security, mobile application, networking etc.

“This is the right platform to push IT sector forward in Nagaland,” said KD Vizo, commissioner & secretary for IT& C, who will head the Nagaland Chapter of CSI.

This platform is to promote computer knowledge in the state, he said.Launching the Nagaland chapter of CSI here, Parliamentary Secretary for IT& C Dr. Longrineken said, “The state of Nagaland although a late starter in the field of IT has been able to make considerable progress in IT development in the state.”

He said realizing that information communication technology offers numerous options to help realize the social and economic goals of a state, the Government of Nagaland has taken several initiatives for successful e-Governance implementation.

The vision of IT&C, he added, is to make the state a destination for investor both within and outside the country and to initiate the people to take advantage of technology through e-Governance and providing IT related services to the state.

“This in turn shall facilitate in providing SMART (Simple, Manageable, Approachable, Responsive and Transparent) government to the people,” he said.

He was optimistic that the launching of Nagaland chapter of CSI will give Naga youth the opportunity to be part of the distinguished fraternity of IT leaders and allow them to compete internationally.

CSI is the first and the largest body of computer professionals in India. The wide spectrum of members is committed to the advancement of the theory and practice of computer engineering and technology systems, science and engineering, information processing and related arts & science.

Mission of CSI is to facilitate research, knowledge sharing, learning and career enhancement among all categories of IT professionals, inspire, nurture and assist students to integrate into the IT community.
