The United Nations(UN) launched its global report on e-government in which Colombia ranks as the most advanced nation in Latin America and the Caribbean in this area, climbing from seventh place to first. Also in the global ranking, it went from No. 52 to 31, rising 21 spots from the previous ranking.
According to the rankings, Chile ranks No. 34, second in the region, followed by Uruguay (36) and Barbados (40). Other countries that previously ranked higher than Colombia, then dropped from their positions were Mexico, Argentina, and Brazil.
After learning of these positive results, the Minister of Information Technologies and Communication, Maria del Rosario Guerra, said "this is the best position we've occupied since the UN created the report seven years ago and the first time that we lead in the region. We had proposed to be first, we ought to rise above countries like Mexico, Brazil, and Chile,” she affirmed.
Global leadership on this issue, among 192 countries surveyed, passed from Sweden to South Korea, followed by the U.S., Canada, United Kingdom, and Northern Ireland.
