India: Chennai: Mysore City Corp goes online
The Mysore City Corporation (MCC) has gone online by uploading data of about 4.80 lakh birth and death reports, and by creating facility for the public to file online complaints for redressal.It has also set dates for uploading the data relating to water supply bills, trade licences, building plan approvals and civic works.
USA: Arkansas.gov to Expand Access to Criminal Background Check Information
Effective July 31, 2007, third parties and service providers may have access to the Arkansas State Police Online Criminal Background Check System with the consent of the subject.Previously, state law limited system access to professional licensing boards and employers. A new law passed in the recent legislative session allows the Arkansas State Police to release criminal history information to agents of employers or persons with the written consent of the subject.
Brunei: Biometric Passport Launch Set For End Month
Bruneians will soon be using biometric passports with the completion of a $7.1 million project by the month's end.The biometric passport project is a joint undertaking between a local company, Information Technology Protective Security Service (ITPSS), and a German company Giesecke & Devrient (G&D).
Kenya: State eyes private sector for rural ICT project
The Government has roped in the private sector into a plan to make ICT accessible to millions living in the countryside.Ministry of Information and Communication PS Bitange Ndemo said the State had set aside Sh670 million to kickstart the project. Private sector players who have expressed interest in being part of the initiative include Kenya Data Networks, Popote Wireless, Telkom Kenya, Celtel and Safaricom.
USA: E-gov survey ranks Delaware, Michigan as best
Delaware and Michigan emerged as the states with the most advanced e-government Web portals and applications in Brown University’s eighth annual e-government study released this week. USA.gov and the Agriculture Department’s portal also received accolades as the most highly rated federal Web sites.A team of researchers from the Taubman Center for Public Policy at Brown University examined 1,548 state and federal sites. The researchers analyzed 1,487 state Web sites – an average of 30 per states – in addition to 48 federal legislative and executive sites and 13 federal court sites. The research team conducted its analysis during June and July.
