Deutschland: Öffentliche Hand investiert 18 Milliarden Euro in Hightech
Die öffentliche Verwaltung wird 2009 so viel für Computer, Software und Dienstleistungen rund um Hightech und Kommunikation ausgeben wie nie zuvor. Das teilte der Bundesverband Informationswirtschaft, Telekommunikation und neue Medien (BITKOM) heute auf Basis einer Untersuchung des Marktforschungsinstituts TechConsult mit. Bund, Länder und Kommunen werden im kommenden Jahr insgesamt 18,1 Milliarden Euro in IT und Telekommunikation investieren. Das ist ein Plus von 2,7 Prozent gegenüber 2008. „Moderne Informations- und Kommunikationssysteme machen Abläufe in der Verwaltung effizienter, verbessern die Services für die Bürger und sorgen für wichtige innovative Aufträge in der ITK-Branche“, sagte BITKOM-Präsident Prof. August-Wilhelm Scheer. „Das ist eine Win-Win-Win-Situation für Staat, Bürger und Hightech-Industrie.“

Rwanda installs Internet kiosks nationwide
The Rwandan government has started to install Internet kiosks throughout the country as part of its e-governance project aimed at developing the use of ICT in public service delivery.The installation of the stations, equipped with touch screens and printers, is the first step towards the promotion and implementation of e-governance, said Alphonse Zigira, the Rwanda Information Technology Authority's (RITA's) director of rural community access.

Citizen satisfaction with federal government services improves this year, according to the annual federal government report from the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI). The federal government index gains 1.6% to 68.9 on the ACSI 100-point scale. Despite the improvement, government services still lag significantly behind the private sector, which currently scores 75.0 on the national ACSI.
Nigeria: NITDA Receives ICT4D Report, Set for Action
The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has received the country's ICT4D document from the ICT4D Committee inaugurated by the former Minister of Science and Technology, Prof. Turner T. Isoun, in August 2003.The ICT4D Committee, chaired by Dr. Armstrong Takang, worked through resource persons engaged by the NITDA to produce the Nigerian ICT4D Plan. The purpose of the plan is to integrate ICT into national development.
