The roadshow was conducted by ITP, the publishers of Arabian Computer News and Arabian Business, who have some 19 publications available in the Middle East region. The event covered issues such as progress of e-government projects, case studies and future strategies.
Dr Ahmed revealed that 33 per cent of the services availed from the government and its various departments were for RP, driving licence and health card renewals, payment of utilities bills and Zakat (Islamic charity) and admission of students to public schools and the Qatar University, among others.
These 20 services, he said, accounted for 77 per cent of all transactions between the government, individuals and businesses and hence, were introduced early through the e-government. While the RP, driving licence and health card renewal facilities through the e-government have already been launched in collaboration with the General Postal Corporation (Q-Post), others are in various stages of finalisation and will be provided in a few months. Recently, the facility of paying fines for traffic rule violations through the e-government was also launched.
He said that new services to be offered to individuals and business houses would include applications for food import licence, renewal of commercial registration, payment of utilities bills and applications for admissions to public schools and the Qatar University, among others.
