Transforming Government since 2001
The ambitious e-government project in Qatar, envisaged by the Emir, H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, has added another service to its array: the electronic payment of Zakat and Sadaqat.

The Zakat Fund channel allows the user to choose the type of Zakat and/or Sadaqat donations he or she wishes to make with the specified amount for each and to pay their donations electronically. All laws and procedures which apply in the current payment service, ie manual payment, apply to the electronic payment service as well.

The types of Zakat donations that appear on the system are: Zakat, Feast Zakat, Needy Students Donations, Orphan Support Donations, Other Donations, Lasting Donations, Repentances, and Consecrations.

The service is offered in both Arabic and English. Applicants follow a series of straightforward, user-friendly instructions to submit and complete their donation.

Payments are collected electronically through fully secured channels. This means that all the steps associated with the services are performed on-line without the need to visit the Zakat Fund offices or service points.

A release said yesterday that through the foresight of the Emir, a strategic vision has been developed for transforming the country's service delivery capability. This is a major challenge of the 21st century and an important step towards moving the State of Qatar to the new world economy.

"Through the e-Government Project, Qatar is embarking on a bold, new, and very important government-wide initiative to transform the way it currently serves its constituents. This is executed through the harnessing of the power of streamlined business processes and integrated information technology solutions to achieve the highest performance in executing electronic government transactions," the release said.

The Qatar e-Government Project created the www.e.gov.qa portal to provide citizens, residents, visitors, and businesses with faster and more convenient services in a secure and private environment.
