The new and appealing Hukoomi website was presented before reporters in a media briefing on Sunday at ictQatar headquarters where officials said the complete redesign was the result of several months of gathering feedback across all sectors in the country.
“Our new page gives you everything,” said Mohammad Omar Naim, ictQatar’s government portal manager as he cited in his presentation interesting clickable highlights of the portal including GIS Qatar map, online driver’s license applications, job postings, utility bill payments, smart cards, traffic violations check, health card renewals and many more.
The basic components of the portal which are easier to access are news and events, topics and a wide range of services which makes the home page more user-friendly and gives a sort of “all-in-one, one-stop shop” services.
According to Hassan Jassim Al Sayed, ictQatar Assistant Secretary-General of Information Technology Sector, the new Hukoomi aims to be accessible for all—whether the end user is a government employee, business person, student, visitor, citizen/resident or just plain curious about Qatar.
He said they are looking forward to improve the standings of Hukoomi among mostly visited websites in Qatar especially that it now offers ease of use, mobile services and social networking as among interesting features. “The new features offer personalised and bookmarking services,” Al Sayed said.
The improved face of the website has already caught the attention of people across the country after it registered a total of 211,000 transactions among online browsers last month.
Al Sayed said they were also encouraged to redesign Hukoomi after they received positive feedbacks during the e-government conference in Saudi Arabia in recent months.
“The re-launch of Hukoomi is to keep Qatar’s ambition to be the global leader in e-government,” he said.
Hukoomi was first launched in 2001 as the first government website and later improved as an e-government website in 2008 and the new facelift with its soft launch in June this year was driven by the desire to add more content and other services.
