The Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) has urged all patients to ensure their health cards are up-to-date and valid.

HMC has issued internal directives, effective November 1, not to dispense any medicine to a patient who fails to produce his own valid health card or a Qatari ID.

Should any person come to collect medications on behalf of a patient, he/she must produce the health card or Qatari ID of that patient.

The smart health card does not carry a specific expiry date; however, the validity of the card appears when the patient visits any outpatient clinic or hospital that necessitates renewal of an expired card. Validity of health cards is five years for Qataris and one year for expatriates provided that they are holders of valid residence permits.

Those seeking a renewal of the health card should produce the original and photocopy of the expired medical card in addition to one photo of the applicant.

Smart health cards are issued from the Outpatient Department (OPD) of Hamad General Hospital and the Health Cards Office of Rumailah Hospital, which is dedicated for issuing health cards for employees of large companies and corporations.

Applications for cards can also be obtained from primary health care centres, besides the Q-Post main office on the Corniche. Smart health cards can also be issued or renewed online through Qatar e-Government portal on the web.
