The Political Bureau's Resolution to build and develop Da Nang until 2030 with vision to 2045, will change Da Nang into a smart city and connect it with the network of smart cities in Vietnam and ASEAN by 2030. To realize this goal, Da Nang worked out a digital transformation project, defining digital transformation as an impetus to develop itself into a modern, livable, and smart eco-city.

The initial success of Da Nang’s digital transformation is thanks to the apps and channels that facilitate people and businesses. Many apps have proved to be effective, including multi-service platform, Danang Smart City, giventake app, and Chatbot app, providing consultation on administrative procedures and public service.

Nguyen Thi Lan, a resident of Thanh Khe district, Da Nang city said administrative procedures are easier thanks to digital transformation. Lan said: “Thanks to digital transformation, administrative procedures and online shopping have never been easier.”

Da Nang defines IT and communications the core of the digital economy, contributing to the city’s growth. According to the Ministry of Information and Communication, in 2021, the digital economy contributed nearly 13 percent to the locality’s Gross Regional Domestic Product. At present, Da Nang is building an ecommerce platform and smartphone apps to help businesses introduce and promote their products online.

So far, more than 1,000 businesses and 2,500 products have connected to e-commerce platforms and 100 percent of Da Nang’s businesses are using online receipts. The city deployed the Market 4.0 model at 3 local markets to accelerate digital transformation and the use of non-cash payment methods.

Ho Thi Nhu Nga, a shop owner, said: “Digital transformation has facilitated businesses a lot in terms of administrative procedures. Everything can be done online.”

Da Nang City has applied digital technology to attract tourists. Da Nang Fantasticity tourism, Chatbot, VR360 apps, and smart travel cards have been used to support tourists and promote tourism.

Nguyen Xuan Binh, Deputy Director of Da Nang Department of Tourism, said many travel agencies have invested in digital transformation to attract more tourists: “Businesses have connected with digital transformation service providers to create new experiences. We also invest in lighting systems. Tourist nightlife helps promote the city’s socio-economy,” said Binh.

Currently, 100% of Da Nang's public administrative services are eligible for level 4 online deployment. In Da Nang, each citizen has an account and unique ID for electronic transactions, and health records. Each student has a unique ID associated with the electronic record. In 2021, Da Nang won the "Vietnam Smart City" Award for the second time, and won the Vietnam Digital Transformation Award.

Tran Phuoc Son, Vice Chairman of Da Nang People's Committee said: “As a hub for startups, innovation, creativity, tourism, commerce and finance, Da Nang needs to become a smart city that connects with smart city networks in ASEAN. Da Nang has issued important policies to promote digital transformation, in which, the Digital Transformation Project in the city until 2025, with a vision to 2030 is identified as one of the projects that bring about digital transformation driving force for city development”.
