The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has designed a draft national system for remote identification of individuals and the company BankID in order to provide administrative online services, the NBU has reported on its website.

"The NBU invites bank society, the public and executive power agencies to join the public discussion of the regulation of the individuals and company remote identification BankID system," the central bank said.

The NBU said BankID today is operating in test mode: the pilot BankID project will be launched in autumn 2016.

The services will be provided on the public administrative service portal (https://poslugy.gov.ua) and other portals of government agencies.

"Using this service, Ukrainian bank clients will be able to avoid long lines and complicated procedures to receive administrative services. They will be provided online," Director of the IT department at the NBU Volodymyr Nahorniuk said.

He said BankID will allow banks to offer new useful bank services online to their clients.

BankID will provide a level playing field for bank system players. The central bank will not store data about clients or use it for commercial purposes.

BankID will help to develop e-government in Ukraine, individual and company identification systems, as well as fighting corruption.

The NBU said BankID is widely used in developed economies to simplify administrative services. Sweden, Norway, Finland, Estonia, Latvia and other European countries have similar services.

The implementation of the project in Ukraine is outlined in the comprehensive program on development of the Ukrainian financial sector through 2020.
