A seminar on using e-government technologies held in Minsk was attended by almost the entire line-up of the Council of Ministers. The participants analysed the implementation of state informatisation programmes and thoroughly studied international experience in using modern information and communication technologies in public administration.

In recent years, Belarus has made a real breakthrough in this sphere, as pointed out by experts from the United Nations, Estonia, Lithuania, as well as the global hi-tech leader Israel.

According to the International Telecommunication Union, Belarus has improved 53 places since 2008, taking the 31st place among 175 countries in 2016. Belarus is not only the CIS leader in terms of information and communication technologies development, but is also ahead of such European countries as Italy (37), Lithuania (39), Latvia (40) and Poland (50).

Not so long ago Belarus set the task to enter the top 30 in terms of information and communication technologies development by 2020. As of today, the goal has almost been achieved. However, according to Assistant to the President Vsevolod Yanchevsky, much has to be done yet as progress does not stand still, and Belarus is operating under a very tough competition with other countries in the region and around the world.
