A six-month performance report of Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) on Monday revealed that during the period National lCT Research and Development Awards-2013 was launched to acknowledge efforts of Pakistani organizations, researchers, academicians, professionals and engineers in the area of Information and Communication Technology (lCT) with a view to encouraging development of an ICT-focussed R&D culture in Pakistan.
During the period, an agreement has been concluded between the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) and Ministry of IT for Promotional Data Hosting Center Facility for the introduction of E-Government in the country, initially for 15 months, free of cost.
Moreover, in order to review the availability of spectrum auction for next generation of technology, a series of meetings with Frequency Allocation Board (FAB) were held to monitor the progress of ground work regarding spectrum auction.
Arrangements for the 3G Auction are under way and the auction will be finalized before the end of the current financial year.
In order to ensure that all traffic terminating in Pakistan is on legal networks, Ministry of IT vigorously undertook the task of checking the grey traffic to stop all financial loss caused to the public exchequer.
A vigilance cell has also been formed in Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) for this purpose.
A team of IT experts has been constituted to work on blocking websites containing blasphemous material as about 4000 such sites have already been blocked.
The Committee has expedited its work on blocking YouTube and prepared its recommendations to resolve the matter permanently.
