The cellular mobile operators will install biometric devices all across the country by August 15 to check issuance of SIMs to persons using fake identity. According to official sources, the timeline for deployment of biometric devices was decided at the meeting of Joint Working Group constituted by Ministry of Interior. The Group comprised representatives of Information Technology and Interior ministries and NADRA.

Biometric devices will be procured and rolled out at all company owned customer service centres and franchised outlets of 11 cellular mobile operators across Pakistan. The devices will be rolled out at customer service centres and franchised outlets by November 30th in Karachi and in the rest of Pakistan by December 20th, 2013. Every cellular mobile operator will require 500-600 devices for installation. Later biometric verification devices will be rolled out in the whole of Karachi city, which is 15-18 percent of total outlets across Pakistan, by February 20th, 2014. The biometric verification devices will be rolled out in the whole of Balochistan province by March 15, 2014 while in the rest of Pakistan these will be installed by August 15, 2014.
