A 5-member committee comprising chairman Nadra, secretary finance, Auditor General of Pakistan, Governor State Bank of Pakistan and secretary postal services was constituted on Monday to develop electronic system for the disbursement of pensions through e-banking.

The committee was formed during a briefing held at Aiwan-e-Sadr with President Asif Ali Zardari in chair. Briefing about the meeting Spokesperson to the President Senator Farhatullah Babar recalled that the president had taken serious notice of the difficulties faced by the pensioners in collecting their monthly pensions and had directed the Nadra to design an Automated Pension Disbursement System that would integrate with the existing pension disbursement network to facilitate pensioners across the country.

He had directed the Nadra to consider making biometric Smart Cards to the pensioners so that they could draw their pension from any biometric enabled ATM of any bank and the e-sahulat centres and are saved from the botheration of long queues and inordinate delays.

The chairman Nadra informed that nearly six thousand e-Sahulat franchisees and nine thousand banks branches in various parts of the country would be used for disbursement of the pensions besides postal offices.

Briefing was attended among others Finance Minister Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, Minister for Postal Sardar-Al-Haj Muhammad Umar Gorgage, Secretary General M Salman Faruqui, Chairman Nadra Muhammad Tariq Malik, Governor State Bank of Pakistan Yaseen Anwar, Secretary Finance Abdul Wajid Rana, Auditor General Buland Akhtar Rana and other senior officials.
