CSC Commissioner Mary Ann Fernandez–Mendoza said the national government has mandated the adoption of ICT concepts and systems as the core of the continuing modernization of the government's operations.
Mendoza earlier graced a gathering of human resource managers and personnel officers in the region, which focused on the theme, "The Human Resource Managers: Exploring the ICT Highway."
Mendoza said the CSC has fully integrated the ICT system into their own operations and it has so far done "wonders" for them.
She said the computerization of various transactions of their office has effectively streamlined their operations.
"We have the technologies now waiting for us to be explored and develop new programs and projects which can expedite transactions in the government," Mendoza said.
At least 179 personnel employees coming from the region's four provinces and five cities as well the neighboring cities who attended the gathering initially agreed to integrate various ICT systems and technologies to advance human resource management activities.
Region XII covers the provinces of South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Cotabato, Sarangani and the cities of General Santos, Koronadal, Kidapawan, Tacurong and Cotabato.
Marcelino Escalada Jr., human resource manager of Davao City local government, said the integration of ICT into their systems helped the city expand its development horizon.
He said they have started to use ICT tools in managing activities related to decision-making.
Citing their own experience, Reynaldo Tagala of the Department of Education-Sarangani said ICT is very important as it made their office functions more efficient.
He noted it specifically helped reduce transaction costs and became a key enabler.
Dennis Matutina of General Santos City said the city government's success in terms of economic performance can be attributed to its adoption of e-governance system.
He said that aside from fully computerizing its systems, the city government has also expanded the program to various schools and offices to complement the advancements that it has achieved.
