The federal government will train 23, 000 of its officials on how to reduce corruption in the civil service through effective use of Information Technology, the Director General of National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Mr Peter Jack, has said.

Jack said yesterday in Abuja that NITDA would key into the federal government’s anti-corruption campaign by using IT to reduce the bureaucracy associated with civil service in the country.

He also disclosed that NITDA has put new plans in place to develop a strong and effective e-government that will reduce cost of governance.

“We are bringing up a new NITDA committed to implement strong and effective e-government. We are keying into the federal government anti-corruption fight. We are putting new plans in place to invigorate e-government. We are training over 23,000 officials of the government who will in turn lead the anti corruption fight by using IT.

“We are also establishing six regional offices in each of six geopolitical zones. We want to get closer to the people and governments of the 36 states of the country,” he said.

The NITDA boss also said the agency had adopted some other strategies to bring IT closer to the grass root.

Some of the strategies, according to him, include training of primary and secondary schools teachers, training of artisans and sponsorship to students to study abroad.

On hacking and data theft, Mr Jack said the agency is working to secure Nigeria’s cyberspace from hackers and data thieves.
