The UAE Ministry of Finance has announced that the federal government’s e-Dirham system collected revenues of around Dh4 billion ($1.1 billion) in the first half of 2015, an increase of 11 per cent compared to the same period last year.

Around 80 per cent of the revenue collected thus far has been collected via the e-Dirham system, according to the announcement.

Additionally, the total number of e-services that have been completed through the e-Dirham system during the first half of 2015 rose nine per cent to 18.7 million from 17 million services in H1/2014.

So far, more than 80 million electronic services have been conducted, and more than Dh17 billion has been collected, since the launch of the second generation of the e-dirham system, the announcement added.

According to Saeed Rashid Al Yateem, assistant undersecretary of Resources and Budget Sector at MoF, 1.44 million E-Dirham cards have been issued by the end of the H1 2015, which reflects the increase in demand and dependency on the system to perform electronic payments.

A study conducted by an independent agency hired by the MoF has determined that 82 per cent of e-Dirhams costumers are satisfied with the level of services offered.

Al Yateem commented: “The high percentage of customer satisfaction regarding e-Dirham services reflects the advancement and distinction of the system.

“The e-Dirham card is compatible with international payment networks, allowing cardholders to use it for e-commerce via online purchases accepting credit card payments. The e-Dirham transactions fees are the lowest compared to other cards. It is considered as a pre-paid card that is not linked to personal or corporate bank account”.

The ministry recently also announced that individuals and companies can now pay for authentication services for certificates of origin and invoices, in addition to all related fees, electronically, through e-Dirham cards.
