Advisor for Urban Development & Municipal Affairs, Zhaleo Rio, said a smart City needed smart people to function while making the best use of the amenities and facilities.

He was speaking as the special guest at the 7th Foundation Day of Kohima Smart City Development Limited (KSCDL) programme held at Capital Cultural Hall, here on Friday.

He said various rejuvenation, upgradation and beautification activities had been undertaken which were solely for the dwellers of Kohima.

He therefore said it was now the duty and responsibility of the people to take care of the facilities and put it into good use.

Citizens of Kohima were educated, enlightened and refined socially and therefore they should behave accordingly while coming into contact with the facilities that have been provided, Zhaleo said.

He recalled how he was incharge of the department for a brief period when it was introduced back in 2016 during which funds were made available for developmental activities.

Although it was not intentional, close to two years were wasted because of internal tussle between stakeholders before any developmental activity could be taken up, he disclosed.

He however expressed happiness that much progress had been made under the scheme in five years.

Zhaleo said the aim of the Smart City scheme was to provide development of projects and to make it citizens friendly and implement projects that could enhance the living standard and conditions of the citizens in the most efficient manner possible.

He stressed on the need to maintain hygiene at the same time take proper care on sanitation management.

He observed that even if the people had access to the amenities it would be futile if they do not put it into use in the intended manner.

Earlier CEO, KSCDL, Er Kezha Theünuo shared the journey of the scheme.

The programme was chaired by GM, human resources, KSDCL, Kekhriesetuo Ziephrü while welcome note was delivered by GM (planning), KSDCL, Kezhochole Rhetso.

Invocation was offered by youth director, Chakhesang Baptist Church, Kitsubozou Kohima, Deo Huprem and administrator, Kohima Municipal Council, Lanusenla Longkumer, proposed the vote of thanks.

A special number was presented by The Beanstalk School Choir. The event was attended by various ward chairmen under KMC. A musical extravaganza was also held to mark the occasion.
