Chandigarh Smart City Limited may be roped in to assist the UT civic body in providing “consultancy” services in drawing up 'smart parking' tenders for lots in the city.

The issue, officials said, will be taken up in the upcoming General House meeting. The Chandigarh Smart city limited is already running the ICCC project in the city.

A senior officer of the civic body, while talking to The Indian Express, stated, “Smart City has sent a proposal in this regard to the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation stating that it has, over the past 5 years, developed core competence in design, tendering and execution of IT based-infrastructure projects.”

If the General House of the civic body assents, then the Smart City can help in fixing gaps in contracts that have so far been drawn up by the municipal corporation that helped parking firms and contractors operate so far. The agenda for the same has been put up before the General House for consideration and will be taken up for discussion in the next civic body meeting.

The Chandigarh administration had prior to a recent March 6 House meeting, released a statement saying that Adviser Dharam Pal had held a review on the parking issue and directed the Municipal Commissioner Anindita Mitra to float “tenders for smart parking immediately.” Later, the Adviser had clarified that only a draft policy of the project had been formulated, and the same would be placed before the civic body for discussion and final approval, as mandated by the rules. According to the proposal, the smart parking lots of the city will boast a host of features — including FASTag-enabled parking management system. The new parking system will include a mobile app for booking parking slots, separate parking for two-wheelers, proper demarcated parking slots, dynamic pricing and parking availability status, to be managed by the central control centre.
