A workshop on Digital India was organized by the National Service Scheme (NSS) Dibrugarh University (DU) Cell in collaboration with National E-Governance Division, an independent division of the Department of Electronics and Information Technology, Department of Youths Affairs, Government of India, at the Rang Ghar Auditorium of DU recently.

The National Service Scheme, Department of Youth Affairs, Government of India, has been conducting a series of Digital India workshops in 120 universities across the country in phase-wise manner since the month of February and March, 2016. The motto of the whole project is to Engage, Educate and Empower (EEE) youths of the country.

The workshop was organized with the aim of connecting the youths of the country with the Digital India products and services as well as to create a pool of Ambassadors (Digi Sewak) comprising of the NSS volunteers, for spreading the Digital India programme. Altogether 220 NSS Volunteers participants with 21 NSS Programme Officers from 19 different colleges affiliated to DU took part in the programme.

The workshop was inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor of Dibrugarh University, Prof. Alak Kumar Buragohain, in presence of Dean of the School of Science and Engineering, Prof. L.K. Nath; Youth Consultant, Ministry of Youth Affairs, Government of India, Manjt Nath; and Assistant Commissioner of Income Tax, Dibrugarh, Satyakam Dutta, as honoured dignitaries.

The inaugural function kicked off with the singing of the DU anthem and the WSS song (Uthe Samay) which was followed by the deliverance of welcome address by NSS Programme Coordinator of DU, Dr. D Kardong.

Later, in his inaugural speech, the Vice-Chancellor of DU, Prof. Alak Kumar Buragohain, lucidly described the significance of the programme and stressed that digitization was the sole way for empowering the young brigade of the country which had more than 65 per cent population under the age group of 35 years in order to empower the nation.

Manjit Nath, Satyakam Dutta, and Prof. L.K. Nath, while attending the event, delivered their respective deliberations on the importance of Digital India.

The entire programme was anchored by coordinator of the workshop, Indranath Chatterjee. The day-long programme, which was conducted in three parts, included a lecture session by Manjit Nath and Indranath Chatterjee, a competition round and a student feedback round.

In the competition section, DDR College, Chabua and Tingkhong College were adjudged winner and runners-up respectively in the Skit Show competition. Likewise, Dikhowmukh College and Duliajan Girls’ College were declared winner and runners up, respectively in the Poster Making competition. Similarly, in the competitive event ‘Idea Generation’, the participants of Sibsagar College and Tinsukia Women’s College were adjudged as winner and runners up of the competition. The workshop concluded with the students’ feedback and a prize distribution ceremony.
