In a recent meeting of the State Public Service Commissions, it has been decided that in order to fill up the various vacancies through the UPSC or PSC examinations there will be online examinations conducted across the entire country. The Chairman of the committee K S Tomar said, “A meeting of Standing Committee of National Conference of State Public Service Commissions was held here in which we deliberated upon various issues facing the UPSC and the state commissions.”

He was in the view that due to the technological advancements the youth of the nation is quite well versed with mobile phones and laptops and it is high time to modify the examination system and include online examination in the recruitment procedure. The decision of the SPSCs will be recommended to the national conference for finalization.

Earlier a few members from the committee met President Pranab Mukhejee in order to make him aware about certain matters that are related to protection of chairman and members of the public service commissions from unnecessary court cases. They put forward issues like disparity, warrant of precedence and financial and administrative autonomy in their meeting with the President.

In order to make the written tests more free, fair and transparent the standing committee had recommended conducting the examinations online. It also emphasized on efficient and effective functioning of the PSCs in the country by taking reformative initiatives.

In the meeting the use of IT facilities including submission of applications, one time registration, online examination, e-governance and other financial and administrative autonomy of PSCs were discussed.
